I have bougie taste in laser equipment. There, I said it.
At Prickly Spa, our boutique laser hair removal spa in South Austin, we use the Lumenis LightSheer Quattro. We have both the 805 nm and 1060 nm handpieces, with ChillTip contact cooling. I wanted a laser I was excited to put in our treatment room, and this is it.
Here’s what’s behind the fancy name, and why I chose it for Prickly.
What is the Lumenis LightSheer Quattro?
The Quattro is a diode laser system designed for long-term hair reduction. Laser light is absorbed by melanin, the pigment in your hair. That energy becomes heat and damages the structures responsible for hair growth.
Skin contains melanin, too. The skill is in targeting the hair while protecting the skin around it. Equipment, wavelength, settings and your technician’s experience all matter.
Why do we have both 805 nm and 1060 nm handpieces?
These numbers describe the wavelength of the laser light. Our 805 nm and 1060 nm handpieces give us two options for treating different combinations of hair and skin.
The longer 1060 nm wavelength has less melanin absorption than 805 nm, helping reduce competing absorption in darker skin. Having that option matters when you’re treating a range of skin tones.
We choose your wavelength and settings after a fresh hair and skin analysis. We also ask how your skin reacted to the last treatment and check for changes, including medications and recent tanning.
Can LightSheer Quattro treat dark skin?
Yes. The Quattro is designed to treat across skin tones, including dark skin, with the appropriate handpiece and settings. Research on 1060 nm diode technology includes treatment with a chilled sapphire tip and supports long-term hair reduction in darkly pigmented skin.
At Prickly, every technician has more than 10 years of laser hair removal experience. We assess your hair and skin before treatment and choose settings for you, rather than treating everyone with the same numbers.
Does LightSheer Quattro laser hair removal hurt?
You can feel heat and a stinging sensation during laser hair removal, especially in sensitive areas. That’s why I care so much about the cooling.
Our handpieces use ChillTip sapphire contact cooling. The cooled tip stays against your skin during treatment, helping protect its surface and make treatment more comfortable. The cooling is built into the handpiece, right where the laser is working.
We check in throughout your appointment. Need a pause during your Brazilian? Tell us. You don’t have to tough it out to impress anyone.
Does a laser hair removal chain have better equipment?
A busy laser clinic and a boutique like Prickly are built around different business models. When you’re booking appointments back to back across hundreds of locations, you need equipment that works hard, treats efficiently, and makes financial sense at scale. Purchase price, upkeep, and replacement costs become big business decisions.
At Prickly, we see fewer clients. We can build our business around the time and attention we give each person, with comfort and results guiding our investment in equipment.
That’s why we invested in the LightSheer Quattro. Our 805 nm and 1060 nm handpieces give us options for different combinations of hair and skin. Chilled sapphire tips keep cooling in direct contact with your skin during treatment, helping protect its surface and make you more comfortable. Every technician brings more than 10 years of laser experience, with time to assess your skin, choose your settings, and check in throughout your appointment.
Think Honda and Ferrari. A Honda makes sense when you’re putting in serious miles. A Ferrari makes the ride part of the appeal. Prickly is a boutique, and we’ve built our treatment room around that Ferrari mindset. A little bougie? Absolutely. You’re making an investment in yourself. We’ve made one in your experience, too.
You can have premium equipment without a giant package.
Prickly is female-owned and located at 2605 Jones Rd, Suite 102, Austin, TX 78745. Our South Austin clients pay one session at a time, from $79 to $299 depending on the area. No required package. No sales pitch while you’re trying to decide.
